Brasilian and European Portuguese
Grades: 6-12
Course Length: 1-10 months
Credit Available: 8-12th World Language 1.0 for a full year / .50 for one semester
What do you consider more interesting to you: Brazilian or Portuguese culture? Where would you prefer to live, if you were given the chance? Do you have friends in any of these countries?
In Portugal, there are just almost 10 million speakers of Portuguese. In Brazil, however, there are over 200 million. If population numbers sway you, then Brazilian Portuguese probably is the more common dialect.
Bear in mind that whatever your choice might be, it is still the same language, so you will be able to read books published in both countries and generally communicate with people with little effort. Don’t let tiny obstacles get in the way of communication between cultures.
These courses will get you started in the right direction. This course includes 30 minutes per week with a live instructor and video recorded so you can go back over the vocabulary and assignments. Everything is done via Zoom or online. Additional materials are at the discretion of the teacher, and you will be notified after your non-refundable deposit for the course is received. Parents will fill out a financial contract for the remainder of months through the year and pay the balance of the course directly to the teacher of record. Average is $105.00 per month depending on the number of weeks in a month.
We recommend your student finish at least 18 weeks for a .50 credit. The World Language credit towards graduation that is required by most Universities and Colleges requires 2 full years in one language. If your student is not going to college, then career pathway credits and / or a variety of world languages will work. Additional live sessions are available, and arrangements can be made with the teacher direct.
