Geology Individualized
Grades: 8-12th
Course Length: One Year
Available Credit: Science Lab 1.0
In this course, students will explore the subject of geology / earth science. Ideally, they will have access to a Geology Kit and able to find rocks of the different kinds. They will use resources in their family library, public library or the internet. If you are wanting to expand your family library, Answers in Genesis is a great source. http://answersingenesis.org They also have articles on their website. Preferably resources should be from a young earth perspective. These resources should include creation of the earth, types of formations, types of rocks, volcanos etc.
Geology Kits available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=geology+rock+kit&crid=4TN5YC0E4N1T&sprefix=Geology+kit+for+%2Caps%2C165&ref=nb_sb_ss_pltr-data-refreshed_8_16
Students may earn up to 1 credit of Geology Lab. 1 credit = 150 clock hours, .75 credit = 112 hours; .5 credit = 75 hours and .25 credit = 40 hours. To receive 1 credit in one school year, the student will need to work about 5 hours a week.
Any time students may go on a field trip (volcanos and other geologic formations - use that week as a week to complete a field study report.)
1/3 of the hours need to be "hands-on" / lab time. For every two weeks you spend researching in your resources, you should be doing one week of hands-on activities or field trips.
