Zoology
Grades: 8-12th
Course Length: One Year
Available Credit: Science Lab 1.0
In this course, students will explore the subject of animals. Ideally, they will be responsible for taking care of house pets or outdoor animals. They will learn about the classification of animals - taxonomy. They will report on the creation of animals as revealed in the book of Genesis. They will use resources in their family library, public library or the internet. If you are wanting to expand your family library, Answers in Genesis is a great source. http://answersingenesis.org
Students may earn up to 1 credit of Zoology Lab. 1 credit = 150 clock hours, .75 credit = 112 hours; .5 credit = 75 hours and .25 credit = 40 hours. To receive 1 credit in one school year, the student will need to work about 5 hours a week.
1/3 of the hours need to be "hands-on" / lab time.
I have assigned a trip to a farm (if possible) for week 33 and a trip to a zoo (if possible) for week 35. If you can schedule these or other weeks, then we can arrange for you to swap assignments.
Students will need either a bird watching book or the use of a website for identifying birds. For those wanting a full credit you may want to purchase an animal anatomy coloring book. Here is a website: https://askabiologist.asu.edu/coloring
8th grade students can receive High School credit for this course with an additional fee of $130.00.
