Grades: 8-12th Course Length: One Semester Available Credits: Career & Technology .50 or Elective Credit .50 Grades: 9-12th This one semester career course will take you through how to interview, resume writing, dressing for success and more. It is a video based with an easy assignment once a week. To comply with Washington State Law for graduation requirements, a career-based course that sets the path for the student is to be started in eighth grade. This course will set your high school courses according to your pathway plan. Upon completion of all work, a Family Academy transcript will be issued. This course is required for 8th or 9th grade depending on enrollment. Students will take a yearly online assessment and use that information to design their courses for the school year. Washington state requires a Career Portfolio starting with all 8th graders in 2024. In this portfolio students must show the direction their path is going, and the courses that they took in high school to direct them onto that path. Family Academy has four pathways: (1) Homemakers Pathway – with courses necessary to be a successful homemaker including bookkeeping, personal finance, home economics, culinary arts, and art courses for creating memories, small engine repair, agriculture courses or homesteading lab science, and much more. (2) Entrepreneurship Pathway – everything a student needs to be successful in any business. Business writing, office and excel software certification, quickbooks certification, keyboarding, website design, photography, adobe editing or image editing and much more. (3) College Bound Pathway – making sure the student is ready for college. College Writing and Vocabulary, life skills, culinary arts, personal finance, algebra 1 and geometry, biology and chemistry or physics and any other higher math – statistics is recommended if going into the medical/psychological field etc. (4) Retail Trade Pathway – making sure that the student can handle money exchanges, office procedures, shipping, business math, accounting, product buying and selling, and much more to help a student achieve success in the retail world. This course is under development / update, but you can still register for the course.
