Course Overview:
This one-semester World Geography course for grades 8–12 offers students the opportunity to explore global regions, cultures, and landscapes while connecting those studies to their own ancestry. Through an inductive learning approach, students will actively investigate how geography influences history, societies, and personal identity.
Major Topics Covered:
Students will study world regions, physical and political geography, cultural customs, and how geography has shaped human history. A unique aspect of this course involves tracing personal ancestry to better understand migration patterns, historical events, and cultural heritage.
Unique Course Features:
- Ancestry Project: Students are asked to order an AncestryDNA kit in the first week and create a free Ancestry.com account. DNA results and family history research are incorporated into lessons during weeks 14–17.
- Inductive Learning Approach: Encourages hands-on research, personal discovery, and real-world application.
- Credit and Requirements: One semester course awarding 0.50 Geography credit.
