Diana McAlister and Candice Broman Childs were each public school teachers for five years, but chose to be stay-at-home moms (and eventually homeschooling moms). Through Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore, John Holt, and other late ‘70’s-early ‘80’s local homeschooling pioneers, they saw home education as the context for Deut 6:4-9. In 1981, they founded Family Academy through which thousands of parents, teachers, and students have been trained in effective methods of home education. They also established Academy Northwest, an accredited private school to serve the homeschool community. In 1986, Diana and Candice developed and began teaching the “Able To Teach” course. They are also the co-authors of Homeschooling the High Schooler (click here for course description in PDF content).
